Sharpton seeks rejection of Limbaugh

Another potentially overblown controversy is growing about Rush Limbaugh’s attempts to become a part owner in the National Football League.I’m no fan of Limbaugh. I think he’s one of the most divisive men in the country. But I also don’t care much at all if he becomes part owner of the St. Louis Rams. He’s a rich man, and his would-be co-owner is a big time owner in another sport and has a great reputation. I say don’t give Limbaugh the attention because the other NFL owners probably will reject him any way, but by having Rev. Al Sharpton and some black players coming out against him, all they are going to succeed in doing is turning him into a victim and making him richer and more sought after. Don’t believe me? Think back to the Don Imus controversy. What happened there? He was fired … then he settled with his former employees for about $20 million for breach of contract … he took a six-month or so vacation before getting back on the air in the largest market in the country, New York, and he’s about to land another TV gig with Fox News. I say it’s better to try to use these instances to teach people about race than trying to punish these bad actors, because it only makes them more popular, and it makes having a cross-cultural race discussion that much harder. Limbaugh is not worth all of that.
